Marine Atlantic is currently looking for a Manager Organizational Health and Employee Wellbeing to work with our Occupational Health department, located in North Sydney, NS or Port aux Basques, NL. The successful candidate may choose to work from North Sydney, NS or Port aux Basques, NL.

The Human Resources Department is responsible for developing and implementing strategies that foster strong employee engagement with Marine Atlantic’s vision in the areas of employee and leadership planning, industrial relations planning, employee development, workforce and succession planning.
Reporting to the Director, Employee Experience, The Manager of Organizational Health and Employee Wellbeing is responsible for the development and promotion of psychological health and employee wellness programs throughout the company, both on vessels and at our shore facilities, along with providing comprehensive disability case management and early and safe return to work program.
The Manager of Organizational Health and Employee Wellbeing plays a pivotal role in ensuring the delivery of high quality, integrated HR and Occupational Health (OH) services. This includes strategic oversight of psychological health and safety, workplace harassment and violence risk assessments, and the disability management and workplace accommodation programs. The manager ensures compliance with responsibilities imposed by health and safety legislation, whilst champions best practices in psychological health and safety, and occupational health, and promotes a safe, inclusive, and healthy work environment for all employees.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
• Lead the planning, coordination, monitoring, and auditing of Occupational Health (OH) services to ensure quality, value, and alignment with best practices.
• Lead and support the development and implementation of the risk assessment of Psychological Health and Safety and workplace violence and harassment, including completing risks assessments, engaging key stakeholders, developing and monitoring mitigation plans.
• Oversee the disability management program and early and safe return to work for occupational and non-occupational cases.
• Manage third-party case providers to ensure effective case management and reporting.
• Ensure workplace accommodations are managed in accordance with applicable human rights legislation, collective agreements, and organizational policies.
• Support the Director, Employee Experience and OHS Policy Subcommittee on required activities regarding MAI Workplace Harassment and Violence Policy.
• Design, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive health and wellness program to support employee wellbeing.
• Assist with the development and monitoring of the Psychological Health and Safety Program (PHS) and implementation plan, including coordinating PHS Program activities with OHS Shore and Vessel Committees.
• Oversight of the Alcohol and Drug program testing program in collaboration with corporate security and other organizational partners, with a focus on education and support.
• Develop and implement preventative fitness for work and heath surveillance programs to reduce the risk of physical and psychological illness and injury to employees.
• Support in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of attendance support for employees.
• Develop and evaluate policies and strategies for health protection of workers, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements.
• Manage and lead the OH team to develop their capability, motivating and mentoring them to meet the current and future requirements.
• Collaborate with senior leaders, external agencies, and health professionals to support employee and organizational wellness.
• Champion a safe, respectful, and psychologically healthy working environment across all operations.
• Assists in the accomplishment of company objectives by performing other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
University Degree in a relevant field
Minimum five (5) years of progressive experience in a related management role,
OR
A combination of equivalent education, job-related training and experience in a related position.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience (Essential):
Strong knowledge through experience of disability case management, psychological health and safety, workplace risk assessments, and human resources, and the capability to plan own work and respect deadlines.
Exceptional interpersonal, leadership, problem solving and teaching skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of stakeholders.
General knowledge of Canada Labour Code, OHS and MOHS Regulations.
Demonstrated ability to facilitate departmental change/improvements.
Strong interpersonal skills to work with individuals from every level of the organization.
Highly organized with strong communication skills.
Self-motivated with good organizational and time management skills.
Strong Leadership abilities.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience (Desirable):
Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) Designation would be considered an asset.
