Marine Atlantic is currently looking for a Journeyman Carpenter to work with our Facilities Management department, located in North Sydney, NS.

Reporting to the Plant Maintenance Supervisor, the Journeyperson Carpenter will be required to plan and carry out tasks, as well as maintain Terminal and Vessel Maintenance requirements under the yearly planned maintenance program.  The employee must be proficient in all aspects of the Carpentry Trade.

 

Additional Key Areas of Responsibility 

•    Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements
•    Prepare layouts in conformance with building codes, using measuring tools
•    Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join construction materials
•    Erect Scaffolding
•    Prepare cost estimates
•    Fuel of vessels and off loading fuel from bulk carriers/tankers
•    Operate the loading ramps as required
•    Work diligently, to promote a physically and psychologically safe working environment, that is diverse, accessible, inclusive and equitable.
•    Assist in the accomplishment of company objectives by performing other related duties as required

 

What qualifications do I need to be considered for this opportunity?

Education

•    High School Diploma or GED Equivalency
•    Interprovincial Journeyman’s Certification

 

Additional Qualifications

•    A valid Class 5 Driver’s License with air brake endorsement 
•    Excellent oral and written communication skills
•    Basic computer skills
•    Problem solving and troubleshooting skills
•    Organizing and planning to prioritize work
•    Ability to work as part of a team towards common goals and objectives
