Marine Atlantic is currently looking for a Manager Corporate Accounting to work with our Finance Department, located in Port aux Basques NL.

Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Manager, Corporate Accounting (MCA) is responsible for directing the overall activities of the Corporate Accounting Department. The general accounting group manages accounts receivable (AR), accounts payable (AP), account reconciliations, month end /quarter end policy compliance, statutory returns, and remittances. This position is also responsible for external reporting requirements such as the quarterly and annual financial statements for Marine Atlantic, pension plan, and standardized Government of Canada financial and statistical reporting.
This position oversees all treasury functions such as cash flow monitoring, pension monitoring, risk register review, optimizing working capital, and letter of credit approvals. The MCA is the main contact of internal and external auditors for day-to-day activities.
Additional Key Areas of Responsibility:
- Responsible for development and approval of all job descriptions for the department.
- Coordinating the activity of the preparation and publishing of the annual audited financial statements in accordance with the Public Sector Accounting Standards and the Financial Administration Act.
- Coordinates the timely preparation and publishing of the annual audited financial statements of the Pension Plan for the Employees of Marine Atlantic Inc. in accordance with the generally accepted accounting standards.
- Manages the treasury function which includes the accounts payable and accounts receivable activities.
- Co-chairs the procure to pay committee – Cross departmental committee of supply chain and Finance representatives.
- Coordinates the annual audit and the preparation of the annual financial statements for the annual report.
- Owner of the department’s Risk register for area of responsibility.
- Oversees the preparation of quarterly financial statements.
- Responsible for the strategic plan of the financial area of the department that are in line with the overall corporate direction.
- Coordinates and works with other members of the senior management team to resolve issues through working groups and ad hoc meetings as required.
- Pension management -Assists the Director of Finance who provides the financial governance oversight of the Plan, in financial monitoring responsibilities of the Pension Plan for the Employees of Marine Atlantic Inc.
- Prepares and manages departmental budgets, reviews monthly variances and takes corrective steps.
- Promotes a safe and psychologically safe working environment.
- Assists in the accomplishment of company objectives by performing other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification and Experience
- University Degree in relevant field.
- Professional Accounting Designation
- Minimum three (3) to five (5) years of leadership/management experience, minimum seven (7) years of total experience in relevant role.
OR
- a combination of equivalent education, job-related training, and experience in a related position.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience (Essential):
- Thorough knowledge of accounting and finance issues, financial reporting, and accounting standards.
- Experience with analyzing and resolving complex financial issues or problems.
- Experience with analyzing complex financial data and reporting to identify improvements and efficiencies.
- Ability to use specialized financial management systems and applications.
- Excellent leadership skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate complex information to individuals at all levels, internal and external to the organization.
- Excellent organization, prioritization, and multi-tasking skills.
- Ability to facilitate and/or coordinate projects.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel PowerPoint and Outlook.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience (Desirable):
- Experience with SAP S4-Hana and SAC Cloud analytics
